I lost restaurant picking privileges…

Uncategorized

So, I took a chance on a local Groupon tonite–it was for a restaurant called the 21st Amendment in Spring Grove, Illinois.

That’s the last time I get to pick the restaurant.

The website looked good, the concept was neat–speakeasy themed in an area familiar with Al Capone & Elliot Ness (insert jazz hands here for effect) but the food? Well..quite frankly, the food tasted the way I would expect any overpriced restaurant with-upwards-of-28-out-of-30-empty-tables on a weeknight, flat beer on tap, silverware that was painful to grasp and penny gambling slots next to a karaoke machine would taste:

Like somebody’s dream died.

The kids meals left a lot to be desired, buttered angel hair pasta that was drowning in a sea of butter–now, let’s be clear, I looovvee butter, I don’t love my daughter’s meal to look like a heap of noodles with a glass of butter poured over it though!! Our youngest had penne pasta Mac & cheese –YUK! This place charges $42 for a 14oz strip steak but pours CANNED cheese (not even Velveeta people! canned!) over the pasta & heats it up til it gets that steamy, shiny orange, filmed-over look…I’d post pictures for you but the ambience in the building was really just the result of very old electrical work & the lights on our side of the restaurant actually went out just after dinner got to our table.

I’ll let HeSaid fill you in on his thoughts, but on the “SheSaid” scale of 1-10, I gave this place a 3–and that’s only bc the server was very nice. I just can’t see this place sticking around–especially not boasting steaks when places like the Wilmot Stage Stop are within driving distance. But that’s a review for another post…Good Night!💤💤💤

(The only pic I was able to take with any light in it!)

2013 Frost Bitten
Yakima Valley Ice Riesling.
Cost: $12

– Drinks like the juice from a can of peaches.
– Reminiscent of slamming a few pixy stix, and chasing them with a shot of vodka.
– Delicious dessert wine, may not necessarily be intended as the main course, at 3 in the afternoon.

On the Spinal Tap scale of 11, I give this one an 8.

Happy New Year!

Oh my goodness. I knew it. I should’ve seen it coming. It was bound to happen. The signs were there.

What started as an innocent he said/she said, husband/wife, food blog, has quickly turned into a DIY Pinterest account, complete with holiday craft projects, and bonus tips on how to entertain your kids.

Why me? How could I let this happen? How could I let her trick me?

Make your own ornaments? What is this shit? Food coloring??? Are we making Easter eggs, too? This is not my beautiful house. How did I get here?

*Update 12/22: There is a picture of a cat on our Instagram feed. That’s it, I’m outta here.

Cornstarch & baking soda concoction… 2 cups of baking soda, 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 1/4 cups of water, stir constantly over medium heat til it goes from liquid to dough like consistency….

Cool to room temp in a bowl, covered with a damp paper towel–we did not have christmas cutouts exactly, but we did have the letters E & M:).
